The LytePod is the first podium to be fully compliant with the new BS 8620 standard
The introduction of the new BS 8620 standard for low-level work platforms is an important development for all contractors who use podiums on site.
More and more construction sites will start listing BS 8620 as a minimum requirement for use of low-level work platforms.
The LytePod is the first, and currently the only, podium to be rubber-stamped as BS 8620 compliant. It is available to buy in three different sizes – 1m, 1.2m or 1.5m.
Each podium has two adjustable platform heights and is fully compliant with BS 8620, which has developed from the PAS 250 specifications.
Prolift Access are an official Lyte online supplier, and we have the new BS 8620 LytePod Podiums available for sale on our website.
PASMA are advising any users with non-PAS250 podiums to upgrade their units to the new BS 8620 podiums immediately. Those with PAS250-compliant podiums do not need to stop using them straight away, but are advised to upgrade to BS 8620 when they require replacing.
If your site or contractor specifies BS 8620 as the minimum requirement for podium use, contact us on 01823 653927 or email [email protected] to enquire about buying the LytePod.
For more information on the PAS 250 transition to BS 8620, check out PASMA’s PAS250 / BS8620 FAQs. This includes advice on what to do if you currently own non-compliant podiums.

Artists from the world famous street art and graffiti festival Upfest are using Prolift Access scissor lifts to spruce up Bristol City’s stadium.
Several of Prolift’s 20ft electric scissors are in use by artists Voyder, Inkie and Andy Council, who are decorating a wall in the south east corner of the Ashton Gate stadium.
The colourful project follows this summer’s hugely successful Upfest 2017, which saw international street artists using Prolift’s boom and scissor lifts to create works of art on walls and buildings across the city.
Upfest co-founder Stephen Hayles said: “We were approached by Ashton Gate to produce something to adorn the walls, inspired by the fantastic street art that is seen across Bedminster and South Bristol.
“We came with a few ideas and then we settled on a final design, which is currently in process.
“Voyder set the background work to the piece, and then Inkie – a Bristol legend – came in to sort the lettering in the design and then we’ve got Andy Council coming in at the end of September to finish the central element – which remains a surprise at the moment.”

Prolift’s JLG 800AJ 80ft boom helped Brazilian artist Eduardo Cobra create this giant John Lennon portrait during Upfest 2017 in Bristol
Prolift Access were back to help the world’s top graffiti and street artists give Bristol a stunning makeover at Upfest 2017 this weekend.
More than 300 artists visited the city to create their masterpieces on the sides of buildings and venues across Bedminster and Southville.
Prolift’s Bristol depot supplied 10 of their Skyjack diesel scissor lifts for Upfest, giving the artists a safe work platform and enabling them to comfortably reach heights of up to 50ft.
Prolift also supplied a JLG 800AJ – an articulating diesel boom lift with a maximum platform height of 80ft – to help Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra create a spectacular technicolour portrait of John Lennon on the wall of the Tobacco Factory.
In addition to supplying machines, Prolift Access also provided ground protection mats and laid on IPAF boom and scissor lift operator training courses for Upfest officials.
Among the many colourful creations at Upfest 2017 was a celebration of the Aardman character Morph by Bristol artist Cheo

Ridgegear’s tool lanyards can help you prevent dropping tools while working at height
Tool lanyards are an essential height safety product designed to eliminate injuries from falling tools – a significant cause of fatalities in the workplace.
Ridgegear’s full range of high-quality tool lanyards are available to buy now from the Prolift Access e-shop on our website.
These UK-made lanyards come in three different ranges with a variety of tool tethering options, as well as a loop for karabiner connection to your harness.
Standard tool lanyards are made from high-quality flat webbing to provide basic tool restraint for small tools weighing up to 3kg.
The elastic tool lanyard range is manufactured from webbing with added elastication for ease of movement and basic energy-absorbing properties.
Ridgegear also have a shock absorber tool lanyard range, which are made from either advanced Kinetic webbing or incorporating a neat shock pack. These shock absorber lanyards are the pinnacle of tool height safety. In the event of dropping a heavy tool, they significantly minimise the risk of the user being pulled off a ladder or platform by drastically reducing the peak loads.

A family of birds found nesting in a customer’s boom lift this week
During a visit to a customer’s site for a routine LOLER examination and service on a trailer-mounted boom lift this week, our mobile engineer Barry Green made a particularly unusual discovery.
A family of birds had nested in the Niftylift 120T and, judging by Barry’s photo, the babies seemed more interested in getting their breakfast than a six-monthly LOLER.
After liaising with the customer, it was decided to delay the service and keep the machine out of action until the young birds have flown the nest.
Our standard agreements over 1-3 years include all LOLER examinations, services, reminders, certificates and documentation, as well as no callout fees on breakdowns. We have depots located across the South West, and can provide flexible agreements tailored to suit your requirements.
If you own a boom or scissor lift and would like to know more about our service maintenance agreements, call us now on 01823 665902 or email [email protected].

Andy is planning the three-day charity ride to raise money for the Lighthouse Club, which provides support to construction workers and their families.
He already has several riders joining him, including IPAF’s director of operations Giles Councell, Training-4-Safety training manager Barry Donaghy and Barry’s daughter Katherine.
But he’s keen to hear from anyone else interested in taking part.
Andy said: “Day one is a 143km route. We start early at Royal Tunbridge Wells, heading for the ferry at Dover which will take in a short climb up to the top of the famous white cliffs.
“After crossing the English Channel, we’ll cycle the short ride from Calais along the coast to Dunkirk for our first overnight stay.
“Day two takes in three countries over 125km. From Dunkirk, we’ll head along the coast into Belgium and then inland towards Bruges. We’ll finish the day by cycling into Holland for an overnight stop at Middelburg.
“The grand finale on day three is a 170km flat ride towards Amsterdam, passing Rotterdam and The Hague.”
The charity ride is due to start on Saturday, April 29, arriving in Amsterdam on Monday, May 1 – the day before the start of the show at the Amsterdam RAI Convention Centre.
